Sun City Hilton Head
Relocating to Sun City Hilton Head? Here is what to do about Medicare, from Special Enrollment Periods to avoiding late-enrollment penalties.
A move is a big life change, and your Medicare plan may not move with you.
Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are tied to a service area. Moving out of it generally gives you a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new plan. Tell your plan about the move and ask about the timing, since the window is limited.
If you have Original Medicare with a Medigap plan, your coverage generally follows you to any provider that accepts Medicare. Your Medigap premium can still change by location, and you will want a drug plan available at your new address.
Moving usually means new doctors. Check each one against the plan you plan to use, and ask where to get your prescriptions filled near Sun City. Our article on doctors and hospitals near Sun City lists the main care sites in the area.
If you delay Part B without qualifying coverage, the premium rises 10% for each full 12-month period you could have had it, and generally lasts as long as you have Part B. Part D has its own late penalty of 1% of the national base premium per month without creditable coverage.
