BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is pulling its Total PPO from Beaufort and Charleston counties for 2027. Here is the timeline and your options.
If you have BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina's Total PPO, your plan will not be available in Beaufort County next year. You have time to pick a new one, but not a lot of it.
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is removing its BlueCross Total (PPO) plan, contract H8003-003, from Beaufort and Charleston counties for 2027. The plan ends on December 31, 2026. Members who live in either county will need a new plan to keep coverage on January 1.
Plans that leave an area must notify their members in writing. If you got a non-renewal letter from BlueCross, that is this change. You are not losing Medicare. You are losing this one private plan, and you can choose another.
You can join another Medicare Advantage plan sold in Beaufort County, or return to Original Medicare and add a Part D drug plan and, if you qualify, a Medicare Supplement. BlueCross's own plan page lists BlueCross Total Value, a $0 premium plan, and BlueCross Blue Basic for Beaufort County in 2027. Other companies sell plans here too.
The Total plan included preventive and comprehensive dental. BlueCross lists Total Value with preventive dental only. If dental matters to you, read each plan's Summary of Benefits before you switch, and compare what each one covers and what it pays per year.
A new plan can have a different network and formulary. Confirm each doctor you see, including those in Hilton Head and Savannah, and make sure each prescription is covered at a price you can afford.
