Folly Beach is a barrier-island city south of Charleston that locals call the Edge of America. It was incorporated as a town in 1938 and as a city in 1973, and had 2,078 residents at the 2020 Census. Center Street, the main drag, is lined with surf shops, restaurants, gift shops and bars, and surf spots include the Washout, 10th Street and the Folly Beach Pier. The Folly North Site and the Secessionville Historic District are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Folly Beach is a small beach community without a hospital on the island, so most care means a drive to James Island or downtown Charleston. Hurricane season matters for anyone on a coastal island: if the governor declares an emergency, Part D plans have to allow early prescription refills, and it is worth knowing how your plan handles that. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county, and Abilla Advisors can compare Charleston County options at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
