Hardeeville is one of the fastest-growing cities in South Carolina. It started as Hardee's Station, a depot and general store on the Charleston and Savannah Railway, and was incorporated in 1911. About two miles northwest of the city center, Swiss Huguenots founded Purrysburg in 1732. The Battle of Honey Hill, a Confederate victory, took place near the railroad in late 1864. The city grew from 2,952 residents in 2010 to 7,473 in 2020, and its limits expanded from about 5 square miles to more than 45 between 2000 and 2010, largely through planned communities such as Tradition Hilton Head. The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge borders much of the city to the west.
The year includes the SC/GA Barbeque Festival in April, the Catfish Festival on the third weekend of September and a Christmas parade and tree lighting on the second Saturday of December.
Coastal Carolina Hospital sits near I-95 Exit 8, and Savannah hospitals are about 20 minutes south.
Hardeeville sits on the Georgia border, and it spans parts of Jasper and Beaufort counties, so check which county your address is in because Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county. Many new residents here moved from out of state, which can open a special enrollment period. If you use doctors in Savannah, a Medicare Supplement works with any provider that accepts Medicare, while Medicare Advantage networks vary by plan. Abilla Advisors can compare your options against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
