Fountain Inn calls itself the Diamond Tip of the Golden Strip, and gets its name from a stagecoach stop along the old route that drivers called Fountain Inn. It sits mostly in Greenville County, with a southern part in Laurens County, about 17 miles from Greenville. It had 10,416 residents at the 2020 Census, up from 7,799 in 2010. Journalist and humorist Robert Quillen made it his adopted home in the early 1900s, and tap dancer Clayton Peg Leg Bates was from here.
