Conway is the seat of Horry County and one of its oldest towns, founded in 1732 on a bluff over the Waccamaw River as part of Governor Robert Johnson's Township Scheme. Colonists first called it Kings Town and then Kingston, and it became Conwayborough before the state renamed it Conway in 1883. Horry County was created in 1801, with its courthouse here, and Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, camped near Kingston during the Revolution. Conway had 24,849 residents at the 2020 Census, up from 17,103 in 2010.
Conway Medical Center is the town's hospital, and Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach is about a 30-minute drive away.
Conway has a mix of long-time Horry County families and university-area newcomers, and it is a short drive to Myrtle Beach for specialists. When you compare plans, check whether your primary care doctor and the hospitals you prefer, Conway Medical Center or Grand Strand Medical Center, are in network. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are approved county by county. Abilla Advisors can compare Horry County options against your doctors and prescriptions at no cost to you. Call 843-284-6815.
